Suggested Beers to try at Half Pints Brewing Company.
Porter - Baltic
This Baltic porter is brewed using pale, crystal, chocolate, and melanoidin malts, finish hopped with Willamette hops, and aged with French oak. Cool fermented and lagered out for a sweet, toasty finish.
IPA - American
To admit that the brewers at Half Pints are hopheads is an understatement. This India Pale Ale is unabashedly hoppy, with a grapefruit-like aroma due to a large addition of hops directly to the final tank (a process called “dry hopping”). A firm, toasted malt presence forms the background for all these hops lending balance so it’s not just a one note symphony.
Pale Ale - American
Like the Kölsch beer that makes Cologne famous, our St. James Pale Ale is a medium bodied blonde brew that’s soft on the palette with a malty finish. Restraint is shown by our hop loving brewers as they add four additions to achieve low bitterness and a floral finish. Slow fermentation gives this beer its smooth fruity flavour that makes us say “yes, we’d gladly have another!”
Red Ale - American Amber / Red
British crystal malts give this beer its distinctly deep amber body and nutty aroma that persist throughout the glass. The soft underlying hop bitterness is tempered with the flowery aroma of the U.K. Golding hop. Like its namesake, Bulldog Amber Ale is tough on the exterior with a soft disposition, so it’s a great introduction to Half Pints.
IPA - New England / Hazy
A cloudy, juicy, and intensely hoppy New England IPA bursting with delicious tropical fruit notes.
This soft and approachable IPA is aggressively dry-hopped with Mosaic & Galaxy.
Stout - Coffee
Our Stir Stick Stout is robust with ruby highlights and a generous addition of locally roasted fair trade, organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee. The beans lend a distinct chocolate aroma and flavour that blends well with the roasted barley and malty sweetness.A woody bitterness rounds out this ale and makes it the perfect match for barbequed buffalo burgers, sweet desserts like chocolate lava cake or with vanilla ice cream as a decadent beer float.
IPA - Black / Cascadian Dark Ale
Pretty hoppy but not too bitter. Fruity tasting yet dark.
Farmhouse Ale - Saison
Savourez une bière brassée à la française à partir d'orge et de blé maltés, du houblon Golding et d'une levure spéciale.
Märzen
Toasty German malts with a flowery hop aroma
Wheat Beer - Hefeweizen
Nothing beats kicking back on the deck at the cabin and taking in a classic Manitoba sunset. Our Hefeweizen captures that jovial atmosphere with a hazy golden body from a blend of wheat, two-row pale, and Munich malts. German style hops balance the fruity wheat malts with a light, spicy character. Finally, clove and banana aromas fill the air due to the specially selected yeast culture.
Stout - Imperial / Double
Our Imperial Stout is a decadent ode to the art of brewing. Malted & roasted barley come together with a heaping dose of crystal and chocolate malts to form the jet black body. Columbus hops form the bitter backbone and a slow fermentation leads to a smooth finish. The beer is then aged for 6 months plus in freshly emptied Bourbon barrels. The barrel aging adds in a complexity of brown sugar and vanilla notes along with a slight interplay of oxygen that would be impossible to achieve without this expensive and time consuming process. The result is a thick, rich Stout that should be served at 14 C. in a brandy glass with a side of your favourite dark chocolate. Unfiltered.
Lager - American
Made from 100% Canadian 2 row pale malt.
Standard American Lager with no rice or corn.
IPA - White / Wheat
The hoptimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds.
Bock - Doppelbock
Brewed in the monastic tradition, bock beers were meant to sustain the body during long fasts required for religious celebrations. This is where the term “liquid bread” comes from, literally meaning big, chewy malt heavy beers were savoured during these times and kept the brothers in sound condition. Our version is thickly malty due to our use of a decoction mashing process (a first for Half Pints!), meaning a portion of the main mash is boiled for an extended period and then re-introduced, leading to an explosion of malty, caramel flavours. We’ve kept a traditional low hopping, and a long lagering phase to smooth out any rough edges, making this the perfect beer for all our malt-loving fans out there.
Winter Ale
Notes of dark roast coffee and semi-sweet chocolate are offset by the classically bright Goldings hop in this medium bodied coffee stout.
IPA - Session
Infused with Lemongrass, Coriander, and citrus peel this India Session Ale would be equally refreshing after a day backpacking Bangkok or an afternoon mowing the lawn in the ‘burbs.
Porter - Other
Brewed using crushe pretzels, cocoa and toffee bits
Mead - Other
This sweet sparkling mead pays homage to Norse mythology. Heiðrún the goat eats the foliage off a sacred tree in Valhalla and supplies the fallen warriors who reside there with an endless supply of the clearest mead for their enjoyment. Our mead uses only the finest unpasteurized and unfiltered Manitoba wildflower honey. It has a thick, sweet body with a crisp finish due to the sparkling carbonation. While it is enjoyable now, with age it will continue to prove its character for many years to come. For best results, keep refrigerated.
